GETTING A LOT OF CRITICISMS, THE COMMITTEE OF ENGLISH WEEK 2018 IS JUST SILENT

Citizenry – The annual event of English Study Program which was organized by the English Literature Student Association (Hamlet) received a lot of criticisms when they held the 5^th English Week in 2018. The event held for 5 days (5-9 of November) in the post-graduate auditorium was considered to be lacking in preparation in all aspects.

The event which was lead by Rusdi, received an unpleasant response from some participants. "The event in this year was not as good as last year. Maybe the committees lack of preparation,”  one of the participants in the English Week 2018 said.

In other hand, some problems in the competition event tend to be ignored by the committee. This is made some contestants annoyed by the unpleasant treatment from the organizers of English Week 2018.

THE COMMITTEE MADE THE PARTICIPANTS ARE CONFUSED

One of the obstacles experienced by participants is the incompatibility of the competition’s rule with a notice letter or circular that has been distributed. "A lot of information is still confusing, but it has been distributed to the children (participants, editors)." Kriswandi said.

This also happened with the participants in the exposure competition. "Initially in a circular letter, there was no notification about the presentation during the judging. Even been asked for several times, the committee still said “no”. But at the end of the event a presentation was held. So , without any preparation, we have a simple presentation,” Vekarisna said, as one of the participants in the exposure competition.

In other hand, Veka also added that there were regulations that were violated by the committee itself. "The committee banned motorcycle parking in the auditorium area. But the committee broke their rule by their self . "He explained.

 

PARTICIPANTS FEEL NOT APPRECIATED BY THE COMMITTEE

In the implementation of the English Week (EW) 2018 activities, many kinds of competitions were held to attract the interest of students, especially English Literature Students (sasing). But, there were some participants who actually felt they were not rewarded for their hard work in participating the competition.

"The prize is not commensurate with the difficulty of the type of contests that I follow. But at least, to appreciate the participants, the committee should find a way to do it, "said the female student who did not want to be named.

"If the committee has not been able to do that, it is better to look for another contest which can be handled by the committee ," he concluded.

THE COMMITTEES DO NOTHING AND SLOW RESPON’S FOR RECEIVING THE PROBLEMS

Some participants also criticized Hamlet's performance as the organizer. Because there is one type of contest that gets an obstacles. It was a video competition. Almost all the videos uploaded by the hamlet on the @hamlet_utm Instagram account were including autolikes so that it caused a misunderstanding between the participants.

Other students from English Department who was a participant in the video competition also gave a comment that “ The slow respon from committee about all videos are affected by autolikes. That made the solidarity between forces divided. We had reported, but it was ignored. "

He also complained that the assessment in the video competition was not balanced. "Between likes and views . But how could they suddenly became the winner. "

The student also suggested that the committee be more assertive, good understanding the flow and rules of the competitions even though it was not the person who has the big responsibility of that contest (PJ) of the competition. "I want the committee to be more assertive, not to pass questions on participants. Not even saying I'm not this PJ, so I don't know the rules. We are as participants, don't know who the PJ’s are in each contest. "

COMMITTEES DO NOT SAY ANYTHING

Many kinds of obstacles occurred during the English Week 2018. Criticisms and suggestions have been given from the participants to the committee. These criticisms and suggestions were facilitated by Hamlet at the end of the event. That was at the closing ceremony of English Week 2018 at University of Trunojoyo Madura exactly in Meeting Building (GP).
